The Girl Who Played with Fire
The second instalment of author Stieg Larsson’s million-selling Millenium trilogy opens across North America this month. After the success of the first film The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and the anticipated box-office draw for The Girl Who Played with Fire, current rumour has a Hollywood remake on the books for 2012.
Kind of early for a remake when the Swedish version hasn’t even played out the third instalment yet, but studio wags say they want to strike while the iron is hot. Scuttlebutt on the possible crew includes director David Fincher (Fight Club), Brad Pitt as lead Mikael and either Kristen Stewart (really, the Twilight girl?) or better yet Carey Mulligan (An Education) as psycho-sexual character Lisbeth Salander.
Here’s your chance to enjoy the story before Hollywood messes it all up.
Synopsis:
Mikael Blomkvist has made his living exposing the crooked and corrupt practices of establishment Swedish figures. So when a young journalist approaches him with a meticulously researched thesis about sex trafficking in Sweden and those in high office who abuse underage girls, Blomkvist immediately throws himself into the investigation.
