Festival Cinemas
Fifth Avenue Cinemas, Park Theatre and Ridge Theatre are now independently owned and operated by Festival Cinemas. Festival Cinemas started with the Ridge Theatre in 1978 and has operated the Vancouver East Cinema, Varsity Theatre, Starlight Cinema, Park Theatre, and Fifth Avenue Cinemas. Leonard Schein (the president of Festival Cinemas) also started the Vancouver International Film Festival at the Ridge. Now, Festival Cinemas operates the Fifth Avenue Cinemas, the Park Theatre and The Ridge Theatre.
Vancity Theatre
Every year the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) hosts one of the largest cultural events in the country. Close to 150,000 tickets are sold for this annual celebration of film. Luckily for film fans the closing party no longer signifies the end of festival fare. Year round the luxurious Vancity Theatre at the Vancouver International Film Centre screens some of the best festival-style films from around the world. VIFF’s renowned programming team present unique, relevant and entertaining films that might otherwise not be screened in Vancouver.
In addition to being home to VIFF and presenting year-round programming at the Vancity Theatre, The Vancouver International Film Centre is also available for rent to individuals and organizations.
